10 of the Best AI Projects of 2024

Happy New Year!

Over the past year, we've collected over 500 AI creative projects. You can find them all at realcreative.ai. This week, we're sharing some of our favorites from 2024.

As anyone following this space knows what can be created with AI creative tools now is wildly different than even 3 months ago. With that in mind, we’ve curated projects that broke new ground at the time and still hold up. And for this roundup, we didn't include any projects that were based on existing IP, but there are plenty of those on the site.

Thank you for reading! If you come across interesting examples this year ahead, please send them our way.

1. Karen X. Cheng - Origami World

Karen X. Cheng and Nathan Shipley's collaboration brings to life a video where Karen navigates a digitally crafted world of origami. The project utilizes open-source tools like AnimateDiff for creative control, complemented by Artlist.io music and Instagram stories' GIPHY stickers for visuals.

2. King Willonius - UNSerious

King Willonius’s album UNSerious blends witty, tongue-in-cheek lyricism while integrating AI-driven production techniques, resulting in a playful and forward-thinking listening experience. By weaving artificial intelligence into the creative process, the album offers a glimpse of how technology can reshape both the sound and direction of modern music.

3. Justin Moore - URL Videos

When Justine Moore prompted OpenAI’s Sora with URLs like those for the New York Times, CustomInk, Neopets, and Waymo, the generated visuals surprisingly captured elements that aligned well with each brand. However, when she tried a newly created URL that didn’t exist at the time of Sora’s training, the outputs were generic and lacked any specific references, suggesting that Sora doesn’t conduct real-time web searches.

4. shy kids - air head

"Air Head" is an innovative new short by shy kids made with Sora, introducing audiences to a unique character leading an ordinary life, save for one extraordinary trait: he has a balloon for a head. Highlighting the production's meticulous attention to detail, the video impressively maintains consistency in the character's appearance and the world around him from scene to scene, enhancing the storytelling with seamless continuity.

5. The Beatles - Now And Then

The Beatles have unveiled "Now And Then," their final song penned by John Lennon, overcoming past technological barriers to extract his vocals using advanced AI. Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney revitalized Lennon's demo with their own instrumentation, making it a true collaboration of all four Beatles. This posthumous release bridges decades, culminating in a historic finale to the band's legendary discography.

6. Dave Clark - Battalion

Dave Clark’s “Battalion” is his most ambitious generative AI film yet, running 5 minutes and created entirely with Image-to-Video and Text-to-Video tools. It highlights the heroic efforts of the 320th, an all-African American unit during D-Day, who protected allied ships and soldiers from enemy aircraft.

7. Gary Hustwit - Eno

"Eno" is a 2024 documentary directed by Gary Hustwit that explores the life and work of musician and artist Brian Eno. The film employs a generative AI engine, developed in collaboration with artist Brendan Dawes, which reorders scenes to create a unique viewing experience with each screening, resulting in 52 quintillion possible versions.

8. Don Allen Stevenson III - Sentinel on the Sidewalk

Don Allen Stevenson III's first short film on Simulon features an android in front of Mel's Diner, delivering a poignant monologue about its existence, devoid of connection and meaning in a human-dominated world. Stevenson captured the footage in 5 minutes, editing on his phone with CapCut, generating voices through ElevenLabs, and scripting with ChatGPT, showcasing an approach to filmmaking with accessible, cutting-edge tools.

9. Jason Zada - The Heist

Jason Zada presents an experiment in text-to-video filmmaking, harnessing the power of Google Veo 2 for thousands of impressively consistent AI-generated shots. With no VFX, cleanup, or color correction applied, its gritty ’80s NYC aesthetic stands as a testament to the boundless possibilities of AI-driven storytelling.

10. Julie Wieland - Children’s Book

Julie showcases her creative journey in using AI to help craft a personalized children’s book for her son. Combining AI-generated visuals with her own design expertise, she refined text with ChatGPT, corrected and enhanced images in Photoshop, and designed the layout in InDesign, resulting in a beautifully printed, heartfelt keepsake for her family.
